Long story short: I lost my phone, so I had to ask Phil via email, and he hasn't responded yet. Now, he doesn't necessarily check his email all that often, but the party is about a week away, so what do I do?
Do I wait to see if he responds and risk that he won't or that he'll say no?
Do I ask someone else?

Chapter 1
This is the beginning, which means I should probably tell you a little bit about me, so that the decisions you make are based on at least a little something, right? So, my name is Olivia, and I'm 26 years old. I've been living in New York for a couple of years, and I'm totally bored. I know there's a ton of stuff out there, and there are so many things I could be doing, but I'm pretty much stuck in the rut of my mundane day to day life. So, I'm hoping you can help me. I'm going to pose a choice, and based on the response, I will follow through on whatever you decide. Call this an experiment.
For the time being, these choices aren't going to be so time sensitive, so that I have time to get some responses. So, tell your friends to vote, too. We'll see, maybe I'll even post some pictures of the choices or something. Ready? Okay.
I have this holiday party coming up. It's kind of a formal deal, and I work with a lot of people who know nothing about my personal life. This is my chance to merge my work and personal life. I mean, what I wear, who I bring, these are all going to tell my co-workers something about me. These are pretty smart, but also very nosy people, so I will definitely hear about anyone who shows up as my date. So, who should I bring?
There's Phil, who I've only known since this past spring. We worked together very closely, but also briefly, so I feel like I know him very well and not at all. He's really intellectual and ends up talking a lot. The nice thing about him is that he could definitely hold his own in a conversation, and I wouldn't have to be around him the entire night. Plus, we sometimes end up hooking up, so that could be a positive or a negative depending on my mood.
Kathy is my cousin. She's awesome, and I love hanging out with her. She's kind of quiet, though, and she might not have a great time. She is usually down for anything, though, and she makes these really amusing faces when she isn't having fun, so that might be worth something.
Or should I take Josh? I've known Josh since my first year in undergrad. We aren't particularly close, mainly because he never remembers anything that I tell him, but I'm comfortable with him. Josh is currently getting his MFA in Poetry, and tends to ask interesting questions of strangers. He's not so formal, though. And he can be flaky. But, again, I sometimes end up making out with him, so that could be a plus or minus.

I recently had a wonderful idea. Much in the style of a Choose Your Own Adventure book, I was going to write occasional entries about my life followed by a few possible courses I could take. I would then let the general public vote, after which I would actually go out and live the winning choice.
The only problem was, I was too scared to do this. Though I am not yet thirty, I live like an old woman and am not a fan of doing stuff. Enter my sister. Bored with her life, and willing for the first time in her life to take directions, Olivia* volunteered to carry the idea through.
So here she is. This is a real person who is really going to live her life according to the plural You. The result will be as fun or as uninteresting as you make it. Did you see that? I just blamed you all if this completely sucks.
